The end of the year is often a time of reflection. Whether you believe in New Year's resolutions or not, the turn of the year can be an opportunity to set intentions and make plans.
So, to help you do both of these things, in this final newsletter of the year I offer you a few questions to work through. The aim is to look back to see what you can celebrate and what you can learn from 2023, then use that to look forward to 2024.
We’ll start with a look back at 2023.
How would you describe your experience of this year? In a single word?
What are you most proud of? What is your biggest success?
What is your biggest mistake or regret?
What did you learn from it?
What did you learn about yourself? What new skills did you practise?
Take your time with these questions. Think right back through the year, everything you’ve experienced. Acknowledge your successes as well as times you’ve made mistakes.
Now it’s time to think about next year:
Given your reflections on 2023, what advice would you give yourself for 2024?
What would you like to be your biggest success next year? What would you like to be most proud of?
What will you need to put in place to achieve that? Actions, skills, habits, support structures etc.
What might get in your way? What could you do to remove those barriers?
What risks might you need to take?
This is a great exercise, adapted from materials developed by Chief, that I come back to every year.
